Gene E. Schultze, a retired teacher and administrator, died Sunday (April 29, 2007) at Dubuis Hospital of St. Louis at the Cedars in Chesterfield. Mr. Schultze died of pneumonia after complications from an illness. He was 78 and lived in Florissant.

Mr. Schultze was born in Columbus, Ohio. He enlisted in the Navy at 17, serving in the Pacific and then the Middle East. After his service, Mr. Schultze graduated from what is now Harris-Stowe State University. He then earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Washington University.

From 1953 until 1987, Mr. Schultze was a teacher and principal in the Ferguson-Florissant School District.
